Axel offers you a complete and detailed technical catalogue that is a helpful reference tool for selecting and installing a mansard window. This tool -- here we introduce a key part of it -- is constantly updated and supplemented based on our customers' needs and requests.
Axel can produce special size windows in relatively short time periods.

Special dimensions are only available in our model HB windows.

There are certain dimension requirements (outside frame) that must be complied with:

Width xb:
Minimum 48 cm. (minimum 43 cm. hole)
Maximum 134 cm. (maximum 132 cm. hole)

Height yb:
Minimum 55 cm. (minimum 50 cm. hole)
Maximum 140 cm. (maximum 138 cm. hole)

In any case the surface area of the window must not exceed 1.6 m².
Inadequate heating and insufficient ventilation can favor condensate formation on the glass. This especially takes place in very damp environments where exterior temperatures are relatively low (see the examples in the table).

This problem is solved by frequently airing-out the room and keeping it at as constant a temperature as possible.

Reduce condensate formation during preliminary construction phases by making the hole with chamfers to favor ventilation of the glazed surfaces. Use care to properly insulate the house and, in particular, the roof, using materials that transpire.
Selecting glass with a good insulating capacity will be a further help. Placing a radiator under the window can be equally helpful.
Use of a dehumidifier can be an excellent solution for extreme cases and conditions (bathrooms, kitchens and other very humid rooms).

We point out that Axel windows are treated with termite and mold-prevention primers and are painted (with water-base paints). They also have a system of seals that prevents contact between condensation that may form on the glazed surface and the surrounding wood.

In spite of this, it is important to avoid an excessive humidity concentration for the health of the window frame and above all of the environment where we live.
If we know the:

Room temperature: 20° C
Internal relative humidity RH 60%
Thermal transmittance U 2w/m² °K

then we can use the graph to determine the outside temperature at which condensation starts to form.
HINGE AND LEVER LUBRICATION
CLEANING EXTERNAL FLASHING
All Axel windows are designed for minimum maintenance. They are painted with anti-termite and anti-mold primer and then with "Quality Time" finishes. We recommend periodic maintenance in any case (depending on the working conditions for the window).
It is good practice to keep hinges and levers lubricated to guarantee perfect long-term window operation. The braking resistance given by the clutches can be adjusted.
Check external flashing at least 1-2 times a year. Residue or dry leaves can prevent proper removal of rainwater.
WOODEN ROOF
A support base must be created for the window frame so that its support plane coincides with the support plane of the roof. The inside dimensions of the hole must be 2/3 cm. less than the outside dimensions of the window frame to permit first a solid support and then a simple and efficient finish.

A special collar is available on request that connects easily to the waterproofing membrane. This speeds up and simplifies all sealing procedures.

We recommend installing a tube in the lower part of the deck and another that communicates with the exterior to permit installation of a motorized operator or application of the exterior shade.
CONCRETE ROOF
Make the hole (rough) so that the window frame has a solid support on the concrete or the dummy frame (2/3 cm. less than the outside dimensions of the frame). This is possible because the window frame and the roof must have the same support plane.

This layout also permits, in addition to having a solid support for the windows, a practical and efficient interior finish.

A raised frame (made of wood if possible) must be prepared when insulation is present on the roof in order to bring the window up to the same support plane as the roof.

A special collar is available on request that connects easily to the waterproofing membrane. This speeds up and simplifies all weatherproofing procedures.

We recommend installing a tube in the lower part of the deck and another that communicates with the exterior to permit installation of a motorized operator or application of the exterior shade.
